Our History

From its humble beginnings pre-dating 1997 to a now thriving 6,000 square foot destination, Essentials Salon and Day Spa has grown to become one of the best in the business.  Essentials Salon and Day Spa continues to employ an elite collection of talented beauty and wellness professionals and remains a community destination with a 20 year stamp to prove it.

Throughout a history of names and locations in the Doylestown area, Essentials has evolved by maintaining its core values to ensure longevity and creativity among patrons and staff. The success has always been measured in the stories of generations of families that have benefited from being part of this community.  Co-owners Elliott Levitan and Jacquelynn McKay met in 1980 when Jackie became an assistant to Elliott and his team of stylists.  His early roots include the Doylestown Hair Odyssey (circa 1978) and Jon Elliot’s (circa 1987).

Jackie, a native of Doylestown, decided to dive into the spa phenomenon by traveling to destination spas for inspiration.  She opened her first business Esthetics Treatment Center (ETC) in 1985.  The current spa is a large salon/spa facility, located at the Doylestown Shopping Center, and is able to accommodate sizable spa groups and houses locker rooms for both men and women along with a relaxation lounge.

This partnership ultimately opened their dream collaboration in March 1997. They employ a staff of highly motivated salon and spa professionals and offer a large variety of professional beauty and wellness services/treatments at very competitive prices.  After a decade of continued success in Doylestown, Marc Levitan opened a second location in Warrington, PA at the Shops at Valley Square.

Finally, both Essentials locations have always partnered with Aveda.  Aveda is a sustainable, plant-based hair and body product line and are the exclusive products at Essentials.
